Committed to the Fourth EstateI started in journalism in 2007, when the industry was already grappling with how to survive in the modern age. Then, the 2008 recession hit and sent journalism into a tailspin. But the current state of affairs shows that a healthy democracy needs quality reporting, and there's reason for optimism.
In that time, I've grown from a cub reporter to a member of Connecticut's Capitol Press Corps, and now I'm an editor overseeing a staff of young, talented journalists. I'm also an advocate for my colleagues around the state, fighting for public disclosure, providing professional development opportunities, and even coming to their aid when public officials get too aggressive in trying to stop their work. |

Aside from my own work, I'm also passionate about journalism and what it can do for democracy. As a past president of the Connecticut Society of Professional journalists (and still current board member), I'm proud of the work our board has done to help other journalists. I'm also president of the Connecticut Council on Freedom of Information and a member of the Connecticut Foundation for Open Government, because journalists should be among the leaders in the fight for more transparency.
